Melissa Shute is currently the general manager for Chevron’s Corporate Affairs at Chevron New Energies, where she manages social and reputational risk, strategic communications, public policy and advocacy. Previously, Melissa was the general manager for Chevron’s Federal and International Government Affairs team based in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Chevron in January 2019, Melissa worked for Equinor (formerly STATOIL) as senior director, Political and Public Affairs in its Washington, DC office. In this role, Melissa provided oversight and management of federal legislative and regulatory policy issues that impacted Equinor’s U.S. onshore and offshore business interests along with monitoring U.S. federal initiatives that impacted Equinor internationally.
Prior to Equinor, Melissa served with ConocoPhillips as both manager, Global Public Policy (based in Houston) and manager, Federal Government Affairs (based in Washington, DC). She has also held multiple staff positions within the U.S. Senate, including Oil and Gas Legislative Counsel on the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee, legislative counsel to former Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and legislative assistant to Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS).
Melissa received her law degree in Oil, Gas, and Environment Law from the University of Tulsa and her M.B.A from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
