Mayra is a Drilling and Completions Engineer at Oxy. She graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor’s in petroleum engineering at the University of Houston (UH), and is pursuing her Master’s degree in petroleum engineering at UH as well. Mayra’s journey into the energy sector began after immigrating from Mexico to the United States, learning English, and completing her education while working full-time. She was initially drawn to the industry because of its technical challenges, and the opportunity to contribute to safe and efficient energy development. She particularly enjoys bridging engineering principles with field operations to solve complex problems and optimize performance. Mayra is excited to join the Fueling the Future panel to share her experiences, to represent women in energy, and encourage other women to pursue careers in this field, especially those who come from non-traditional or challenging paths.
